Privacy notice

What we collect, why we collect it and how we look after it.

Last updated: October 2026

This notice explains how Riley's Landscaping ("we", "us") handles personal information when you use this website or get in touch with us about work. We're a small local business and we keep things simple: we only collect what we need to quote for and carry out your job.

Who we are

Riley's Landscaping is a landscaping and fencing business based in Cowes, Isle of Wight. For anything to do with your personal information, contact us at rileys.landscaping@outlook.com or on 07860 132196.

What we collect

When you visit this website, we don't ask you for any personal information. There are no forms, accounts or marketing cookies.

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and understand which pages are useful. It doesn't use cookies, and it doesn't identify you or track you across other websites.

When you contact us by WhatsApp, phone, email or Facebook, we'll receive whatever you choose to share, which is usually:

  • your name and contact details (phone number, email address)
  • the address of the property where the work would take place
  • details and photos of the job

When we carry out work for you, we also keep quotes, invoices and records of payment.

How we use it

We use your information to:

  • reply to your enquiry and arrange a site visit
  • prepare and send you a quote
  • carry out the work, and contact you about it
  • invoice you and keep financial records we're required by law to keep

We'll never sell your information or use it for unrelated marketing.

Our legal basis

Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we handle your information because:

  • it's needed to give you a quote and carry out work you've asked for (contract)
  • we have to keep financial records for tax purposes (legal obligation)
  • it's in our reasonable interest to keep basic records of past jobs, for example in case of a later query or guarantee claim (legitimate interests)

Who we share it with

We only share your information where we need to, for example with our accountant, or with a supplier delivering materials to your property. The services we use to communicate (such as WhatsApp, phone, Microsoft Outlook and Facebook) process messages under their own privacy policies.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries that don't go ahead for up to 12 months. We keep records of completed work and payments for six years, as HMRC requires, and then delete them.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it, delete it or stop using it. To do so, just get in touch using the details above. We'll respond within one month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please talk to us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
